I had an MRI on my knee yesterday and it’s not good news. I have a torn meniscus and a stress fracture on my femur. I also have a torn ACL, but I knew that. I did that about 10 years ago and just never got it fixed. But the torn meniscus and the stress fracture are my biggest problems. So it looks like I’ll be out of commission for awhile. I go next week to see an orthopedic doctor and I’ll find out then what my options are. I’m sure it’s going to at least be arthroscopic surgery and then maybe I’ll be out for week. If that’s the case, I may be able to run the half marathon in November with my sons, and maybe target another marathon in January or so.
I know I have to stay positive and hope for the best and I’m determined that I’ll come back stronger than ever. Blah blah blah. This sucks and I’m pissed. I just hope that if I have surgery, I’ll still be able to run. I really do like running and I can’t imagine not being able to do it.

I’m so sorry, Dave! I hope whatever the options are, they aren’t too invasive and allow you to get back to running quickly.
Dave,
Sorry to hear the news. Man, that bites big time. But it is encouraging if you’ll be able to run the half in November. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. You’re a strong guy — on the inside & out, but of course, I don’t blame you for ranting about it! If you have surgery, are you planning on going for some PT afterwards? That will probably help greatly if you can do that. That, & probably some painkillers.
I wish you a speedy recovery & hope that you can find other activities that make the interim less of an impatient period, & more like just another challenge to get you back on track!

P.S. I know this probably won’t cheer you up much, but I thought you might like to know that you are now part of my Runner’s Circle.
Thanks Kristen and Corey for the kind words and encouragement. I know both of you have experienced serious downtown because of injury or illness, and I look at both of you and how you guys bounced back, and so I feel that I will be back in no time.
Hi Dave,
Here’s the correct link. Please excuse the typo!
You’re welcome! You are one brave guy!

P.S. BTW, there’s a minor error in the above link I listed: If you follow the Runner’s Circle link & then remove the slash from the URL & reload the page, the link works!
