I Think I Broke My Knee

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything here and the reason being is I hurt my knee and I haven’t been running for 2 weeks.  I’m not sure what the problem is, but it’s gotten better and I’m going to try and run tomorrow morning.  I’ve been seeing a physical therapist and she has been working my knee trying to get it back to where it should be.  I probably should have gone to a orthopedic doctor, but I was afraid that he would want to “cut me open”.  The last thing I want is surgery because then I know I probably would not be ready for my marathon.  The fact is though, I still might not be.  Everything is going to come down to how I feel after I run tomorrow.  If it goes well, then I think that I’m back on track.  If not, it looks like I may have to see the orthopedic guy.

I had hoped to run the Georgetown to Idaho Springs half marathon in less than 2 weeks, but I highly doubt it now.  If everything does go okay, maybe I’ll do it as a training run and not be concerned about my time.  We shall see.

It’s been driving me nuts that I can’t run though.  I feel like I’ve gained 20 pounds and I’m really restless.  Hopefully I’ll get back on track and everything will be fine.

About Dave

I was diagnosed with MS about 8 years ago and I am one of the lucky ones. I don't have too many problems associated with it, and the disease has actually slowed down. I took up running 6 years ago just to see if I could do it. So far I've run 7 marathons in 5 years and 18 half marathons.

Oh-oh-oh, do I know that feeling SO well! You’re going stir-crazy because you can’t do what you love to do most, & it’s hard when you can’t put that restless energy somewhere!

I hope your knee is OK. One marathon isn’t going to make your break your running career, but running a marathon on a broken knee might. So please take it easy. Of course, it’s all about short-term vs. long-term gains. Even though the short-term might seem like one big pain in the ass. ;-)

Maybe you can do something else that doesn’t stress your knee too much, so you can still workout/be physical. Have you thought about doing wimming, biking, yoga, or anything that doesn’t put too much stress on your knee?!

BTW, thanks so much for the kind words you wrote on my blog. I’ve since replied to your comments, & let me tell you, there’s lots of lint from all of the warm fuzzies collected on that post. LOL.

Oops, swimming not “wimming.” Geez, I hate typos. WordPress needs a spellchecker. ;-)

I thought you were pulling a Popeye on me. That’s the way he says “women”

Sorry about your injury, Dave. I hope the run today goes/went well, and that you’re on the road to recovery.
